Diana Laurillard is Professor of Learning with Digital Technologies at the London Knowledge Lab, UCL Institute of Education, leading externally-funded research projects on: i) developing a learning design support environment for teachers, and ii) developing software interventions for learners with low numeracy and dyscalculia. This work relates closely to her roles as Pro Director for Open Mode learning, and as a founder member of the Planning Board for the cross-institutional Centre for Educational Neuroscience (IOE, Birkbeck, UCL). Previous roles include: Head of the e-Learning Strategy Unit at the Department for Education and Skills, where she developed the first cross-sector e-learning strategy on; Harnessing Technology; Pro-Vice-Chancellor for learning technologies and teaching at The Open University, Visiting Committee on IT at Harvard University and previously worked on the Technology Enhanced Language Learning programme. Current roles include: Royal Society Working Group on Educational Neuroscience, Boards of the Observatory for Borderless HE, Supervisory Council for Fern Universitaet in Hagen, Governing Board of the UNESCO Institute for IT in Education. She has given many international keynote addresses, published in many academic journals and books, and her book Rethinking University Teaching: A conversational framework for the effective use of learning technologies (2002, RoutledgeFalmer) is one of the most widely cited in the field.
Alan Tait is Professor of Distance Education and Development at the Open University/UK and a Senior Associate with Ranmore. Alan has a long record of professional practice, publication and the support of professional development in distance and e-learning. Until recently he was Pro-Vice Chancellor for Curriculum and Qualifications and before that Dean of the Faculty of Education and Language Studies. Alan is also a senior member of St Edmunds College, University of Cambridge.
Creston Davis is the Founder and Director of GCAS. He is Professor of Philosophy at the European Graduate School and at the Institute of Social Sciences and Humanities. He has published several books including Paul’s New Moment (with Slavoj Zizek & John Milbank), The Monstrosity of Christ, Hegel & the Infinite (with Zizek and Clayton Crockett), Theology & the Political (with Zizek and Milbank), Theology after Lacan: A Passion for the Real (with Marcus Pound and Crockett), and Contradiction & America (with Alain Badiou) forthcoming.
Maria Nikolakaki is a faculty member in the Department of Social and Educational Policy, at the University of the Peloponnese. She received her PhD in 2000 from the University of Athens, after defending a dissertation, Modernization and mathematical paideia in Greece: a historical-comparative perspective of the teaching of mathematics in primary school. Her work continues to deal with the areas of Critical Pedagogy, Comparative and International education, Education Studies, Mathematics Education, and Citizenship education and identity. In 2012 she edited Critical Pedagogy in the New Dark Ages: Challenges and Possibilities, which had contributions from Henry Giroux, Noam Chomsky, Slavoj Zizek, Paolo Freire, and Howard Zinn, among others. She has authored numerous other books and articles, such as 2014’s “Neoliberal Economic Crisis and Resistance in Critical Pedagogy” in Spyridakis’s Market vs. Society Conference. Her forthcoming book with Routledge is Revolutionary pedagogies and debtocracy, co-authored with Leonidas Vatikiotis.
